I'll tell you what happened...I suck at this. There you have it. So I'll review the days since. Let's see - so that would have left us off at last Saturday, right?
Saturday was The Tyke's first big soccer game. With only one practice under thier belt it was sure to be a real treat. It turned out that most of the kids had played before so knew the deal. Poor little one was a bit confused but did manage an almost-goal. Any proud parent will tell you an almost-goal is just as good. Any kid will tell you though, that it's not. They ended up losing 4-2 but I thought it was a good game anyway.
I can't remember for the life of me what we did after that...no wait - I babysat for Hailey. That was lots of fun and her folks certainly needed a nitght out on the town. We ordered Pizza which she can't eat because Meat is her Friend, and she doesn't eat her Friends. So she got Mac N Cheese which she didn't mind at all. Really, when you are 2 there isn't much more to life than Mac N Cheese. We read some, and she watched The Aristocats with The Tyke. She also watched some Gilmore Girls with me while eating.
There is one small problem with having other kids over to your house. Well, for me there is. See, The Kid thinks I'm OCD. I probably partly am but mostly I want to keep the place clean. Which is a horrible thing to try to do as a mother in general, but when you have an alien (by which I mean not your own) child in the house it's all that much harder to keep it up. Because, well, they don't always have the same tidy-ness habits as you do. So while I tried and tried to let poor Hailey eat her Mac in peace, I was sticking my hand below her mouth at every bite so as not to have a single macaroni fall to the ground. I had wipes and napkins a plenty to wipe her mouth too. I know...bad.
This brings us to Sunday (sorry - this is proving to be a wee bit longer than I had anticiapted). Sunday The Tyke and I did breakfast and then on to Costco for my newest addiction - Vitamin Water. Say what you will about it, but I like it and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than going to Starbucks twice a day. We also bought some shampoo and beef jerky. Seems like a waste to drive up there just for those few items, but it was worth it to me. The remainder of Sunday was spent cleaning since you can never be clean enough. The LG's invited us to join them at Azteca for dinner and we all piled into my ride (sweet it is not) and headed out. Tep Tep wasn't feeling too hot, so the ride home was, um, interesting. The Somerset and I were gonna make a pit stop which Tep Tep was too out of it to realize. I had to make some last minute driving choices (guided by the wanting - no NEEDING - to get home Tep Tep) and get to the LG's pad ASAP. We just ditched her and headed to the closest Starbucks. We heded back to the LG's for the season premire of the Simpsons which The Tyke had been waiting all week for. Tep Tep was still not well, but agreed to a game of pool in the cabana at the condo. Somerset and I got our asses beat! Ok, not really. My game has actually MUCH improved. We lost ONLY because I scratched on the 8 ball. Sucky.
Sunday night/early Monday moring (like 1:30) I got up from my nice warm bed to the un-lovely sensation of rising bile. Yeah me - I got sick! I barfed my brains out, or at least most of the acids in my stomach and headed back to sleep. The Kid barely noticed he was out so cold. My insides were having some sort of battle with bacteria all through the night. I finally got up for work and got The Tyke off to school. I barely made it to work I was so out of it. So I waited for my Lovely Co-Worker to arrive and broke the news to her. I helped get everyting set and organized and made sure her lunch was covered and headed home. None too soon I might add as the bacteria was winning. I made another trip to the Porcelain God and fell asleep until The Tyke got home from school. We ran a quick errand and then off to soccer practice. The Kid got home before us and was sitting on the couch watching some TV when we got there. The Tyke and I picked up some food and we ate dinner watching the last disc of Smallville Season 1.
By Tuesday I was better enough to stay at work but was still somewhat dazed. The day plodded along with not much to report in the way of activity. My Mom took The Tyke for dinner and I got some alone time until both the boys returned from thier respective outings. More Smallville and then off to bed.
Wednesday there was a mid-day meeting by most at work so I held down the fort. I don't really remember doing much else. Hell I don't even remember what was for dinner that night. Oh, shit - no I do remember. I went to the Laundry. Yes. I had a grilled cheese at Flame and the nice lady at the Laundry let The Tyke watch her TV and let me read the new magazines. Not all that exciting.
Thursday I was at the mid-day meeting and only took a half lunch since I had to leave early for soccer. Took The Tyke to practice and my Mom brought Graci (Goodness Gracious) to me for some sitting. I'd told her I'd doggie sit. The kids were pretty rough at practice and Bi-Polar boy got a little out of control. At one point a kid touched him and he screamed "Get off me you jerk!" and then played again like nothing happened. This was my cue to make sure that I bring his meds just in case practice goes over and it's that time. It was almost 6:30 and it's pretty evident when he goes past 6:15 that he needs his meds. Another kid got tripped or fell and chipped a tooth, busting his lip in the process. Bleeding, he left with his mom. Then, the horrible thing happened. See, I had warned The Tyke that as a child of his age I was smacked in the face with a soccer ball. Well, last night it happened to him. I was standing, watching as one kid kicked the ball from the goalie box. In slow-mo the ball arcs up in the air and bens him right in the face. He just stood there a minute. Then the tears came. He didn't cry out loud, but just stood there with moisture crawling down his cheeks. Frozen he stood there until his group made a goal and they were out. Then he pouted on the sidelines. I walked over to him and asked if he was ok. He mumbled something and I knew to leave him be. When the coach asked at the end of practice what the kids learned, The Tyke says, "I learned that everyone's trying to be a daredevil!" which the coach actually understood meant that the kids were too rough and said so to the rest of the team. He'd seen it too, so I guess the daredevil thing made sense to him.
Today I learned that my Brother and SIL had to give up Chuy, the dog they've had for 4 years. It's sad. Sad twice over because my Mom might also have to give up her dog whom I love as my own. Hopefully it will all work out. Hopefully.
So, sorry it's taken me so long to update, and sorry it was such a long post. I really will try to a) be more timely and b) be less boring.
